Labor Day – 2012
Here in the United States, Labor Day signifies the unofficial end of Summer, the season of outdoor restaurant seating, wearing flip flops, and especially this year, hot and humid weather.
Labor Day also represents beginnings, back to school, the presidential election, and the realization that there are only four months left in 2012 to accomplish your work goals.
What are your professional goals? Do you want to go back to school, learn a new skill, or finish a project? Is it time to look for a new job, build your network, update your LinkedIn profile or start that business you always dreamed about?
Whatever your goal is, write down your desired outcome and all the steps necessary to achieve it. Do you need to benchmark with someone who has done what you want to do? Do you need to save money or update your image? Do you want to read a book or subscribe to a blog?
A wise person in my life once told me that “activity breeds activity.” Writing down your goal brings it to life. Doing one thing every other day will give you momentum. Before you know it, you will have achieved your goal.
Don’t wait until tomorrow. If you are going to a barbecue later today, make a mental note to talk with someone about your goal. People generally love to help and give advice, and support is an important element of making something happen. Good luck!
