Holiday Reflections
My blog posts tend to be educational and today it’s merely a brief musing inspired by the season. It’s 11 days until Christmas, then a week and a half later, along comes New Year’s. This time of year is jam-packed with holiday parties, donating toys, coats, food and money to people and causes that we care about, giving gifts to family and friends, sending cards, appreciating clients and service providers and let’s not forget decorating.
As I look out my window, I am watching beautiful snowflakes fall. It’s Saturday so my Outlook email inbox is not filling up with emails and I am catching up on administrative work that I find hard to do during the week when I meet with clients.
Even after 14 years, I feel so gratified by the work I do. I develop trusting relationships with so many people who actually pay me to give advice, teach them new skills, and provide motivation. I work with recent college grads, people at the end of their careers and everyone in between, to help them learn how to lead teams, develop executive presence, use social media to extend their professional brand, and manage time more effectively. I speak to audiences and write e-books, articles, resumes, board bios, cover letters and LinkedIn profiles.
Through all of this the most important outcome of my work is that I develop numerous relationships. I wish that I could stay in regular touch with everyone I have met however this is an impossibility. So I use social media and work hard at getting together with people in person.
This holiday season, I challenge you to reach out to someone every day whom you haven’t talked with in a while and tell them you have been thinking about them. It will mean so much to them and you will feel good as well.
Have a joyous and lovely holiday season!
